Starting school, an open letter to my daughter.
Location scouting in Bearsden
How? How can my baby girl be starting school? How are we here already?
I can remember, clear as anything, being six months pregnant, standing in our bedroom in our flat, hand on my bump, thinking; it'll be TWO-THOUSAND-AND-NINETEEN when you start school. It seemed like the most insane, far away concept and sounded utterly inconceivable at that point as you hiccuped in my belly.
Now here we are, my empathetic, fiery little one, ready for the adventure ahead. It’s not the end of an era but the start of a new chapter. It’s time for you to find your dreams and stretch your independence that wee bit further as you start primary one.
Can we talk about body confidence?
I am always on the lookout for new and beautiful locations to take my families to for their photoshoots.
I love places where the kids can have fun whilst their parents enjoy the view and watch their little ones doing what kids do best, running free! Having driven past this spot six times a week for years, I have always wanted to explore it and when we got the opportunity to check it out with my kids and my camera, it was exactly what I was hoping for.
I can’t wait to visit it again.
Dance photography | Glasgow
When I speak to mums, the biggest reason I hear being used for putting off a much wanted photo shoot is the worry of how they will look in the photos. Many mums who come for a family shoot joke in the first few minutes about me “photoshopping out squidgy bits” or sometimes even saying they don’t want to be in the photos at all, I’m just to focus on the kids.
The most important thing though, is why we want family photos in the first place. That’s the big point, they are photos of your family, exactly as it is, right now, in this moment. They may be babies and toddlers, preschoolers and eight year olds, they may be teenagers or fully grown adults, but those children are your children and they want you in the pictures with them.
Existing in photos with your children this Mother's Day
Performers put in so much time and dedication to the development of their skills and preparing for performances.
Beautiful costumes, graceful moves, and strength of mind and body are all on the go at once. With all that goes into this by the performers themselves and those supporting them, it can be very special to capture this dedication with a specialised photoshoot.
Travelling with children - Glasgow to Copenhagen
Mother's day is an emotional and often sensitive day for so many people, for so many different reasons.
Seeing joy, love, excitement, shyness and toddler tantrums in a photo fills me with a sense of reality, of life and of living. I love the view point that an unposed image gives us as the viewer. The way that documentary photography can draw you in and make you feel like you are in that moment with the subjects of the photo is so powerful. It is real and it is honest and that is what I love most, how perfectly imperfect life is. It is so important to exist in photos with our children. Do we want to look back when these years have passed us by and realise there are no photos because we were waiting for the perfect moment? There is no moment more perfect than right now to be in photos with your family. I am so thankful to my mum for taking so many photos as we grew up, with family members, on our own, with her an my dad. Photos decorated our house and now they decorate my home too.
What photos would you choose to be in this Mother’s Day?
From opera singer to family photographer.
Wow, Copenhagen! If you want to go somewhere for a family city break I can't recommend Copenhagen highly enough.
A day out with kids | Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum
So much of what opera singers want to achieve on stage, is driven by emotion. It is our job as singers to accurately portray every intention and emotion, so deliberately written by the composer, to the audience. Emotion is a huge part of who I am. It fuels my decisions so it’s no surprise that in my photography, emotion is what I want to capture.
Getting in the picture with your kids
I had heard about Dippy on Tour, with his current stop being in Glasgow at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum so I knew I had to take the kids for a visit. We walked into the main gallery and there he was. The look on my daughter’s face was amazing! She was blown away by Dippy and the fact that he spanned almost the entire room. She was particularly intrigued by his long tail. We walked all the way around Dippy, stopping off for a sticker, and then made our way upstairs to get a birds eye view. As we walked back through the park we had so much fun running races and balancing on mini borders, it really was a fun family day out in Glasgow.
What is lifestyle photography | Glasgow family photographer
So often I hear parents say that they just want photos of the kids. They just want to capture their children’s personalities before they grow and change. But the thing is, photos aren’t just taken to be looked at now. They are taken for history, for nostalgia. They are for looking back on in a year, in ten years, in forty years!
So please, for yourselves and for your children, join in the photos, join in the fun, and you will treasure those photos as much as they will.
Christening photography | Baldernock Parish Church
People often say that they want candid photos, natural photos. But often, when the camera comes out and people are aware of it, candid disappears. Calls for “say cheese” abound, and kids develop smiles that are all teeth and are never normally seen, other than when they are asked to smile on demand! This is where lifestyle photographing comes in.
A snowy day in Glasgow | Top three tips for photographing in snow
It was such a pleasure to photograph this christening day after one of this special little girl’s Godmothers got in touch. She wanted to buy a present for her goddaughter that would always be treasured and what better way than with photos that she and her family can look back on whenever they want. At Nadine Boyd Photography, you can buy gift vouchers for any occasion, for a special day or party, or for a family or newborn photoshoot for someone dear to you. They are also the perfect gift for grandparents!
Glasgow Green | Family photoshoot
Last year I went out and got lovely snow photos of the kids with my husband and the dog (who thinks that days with snow are the very best days!), and I love them. But this year I am challenging myself to take more of the photos I love the most, the truly documentary style photos. That means zero direction.

New Year - New Goals | Glasgow Photographer
As we get properly stuck into the new year this week, everyone starts looking forward to the coming year and making plans. With those plans being made, updates put in place, now is the perfect time to update your professional headshot.
How to take great Halloween photos of your kids
As 2019 begins, I find myself looking forward to what this year could bring. In the past I have always felt like I should have at least one resolution for the new year, but I can’t think of many, if any, that I have actually stuck to. The very fact I can’t think what any of my past resolutions have been, suggests that they didn’t last long, certainly not long enough to have been memorable! So this year I have decided to have goals instead of resolutions. Things I want to achieve instead of things I want to give up or do more of.
